Sony will expand its Xperia lineup in 2025 with the Xperia 10 VII, according to leaks from reliable Esato forum tipster spektykles. The mid-range device will introduce key upgrades, including a 120Hz OLED display—the first in the Xperia 10 series.

The Xperia 10 VI, released in May 2024, has a 60Hz OLED panel with a 120Hz touch-scanning rate and Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 powering it. For the Xperia 10 VII, Sony is expected to use a different chipset, with speculation pointing to the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 (introduced in June 2024) rather than the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 (expected in February 2025) as a cost-saving measure. Built on a 6nm process, the 6s Gen 3 offers a 15% faster CPU and improved AI capabilities compared to its predecessor, according to Qualcomm’s benchmarks. The Xperia 10 VI launched at €399 ($430), and the Xperia 10 VII is expected to be priced similarly.
Sony’s smartphone division has reduced global shipments by 40% from 2020 to 2023, according to Counterpoint Research. The company is focusing on refining its mid-range lineup to retain existing customers and attract buyers looking for compact, multimedia-focused devices. A launch date has not been confirmed, but given the Xperia 10 VI’s May 2024 release, a similar timeframe is likely.
In other news, Sony is developing 100MP and 200MP smartphone sensors. According to Digital Chat Station, the 100MP sensor is expected to be widely adopted by Chinese OEMs in Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500-powered flagships launching later this year. Sony’s 200MP sensor, reportedly larger than Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL sensors, may be used in one of its own devices and sold to other manufacturers.
